I've been playing around with taking digital photographs since mid-2002. You'd think that after all this time, I'd be a bunch better at it. I do think I'm beginning to understand the tools a little better. I know that I still have a long way to go, but that's probably why I still enjoy doing it. I love to challenge myself, and to be honest, it's mostly about getting out there and seeing the world in new ways.

So, here you can see some of my work. Like everything else on this web site, these are mostly for me. That means I optimize them to look best on my screen -- sorry PC users, some of these will probably be too dark for you. It also means that a lot of these are images that nobody but me or my friends or family would ever want to see. If you really want to dig in, here are a few links to albums that stood out to my eye for one reason or another.

2008

Place Holder - This is a place holder until I manage to take some interesting 2008 photos.

2007

Road Trip - I took a long road trip up the western coast of the US and into Canada. I saw some amazing scenery and made a ton of photos. I like Canada a lot -- especially Vancouver. That town is awesome. I'd like to go back some time and see some of thier other national parks.

Joshua Tree - I headed up to Joshua Tree to try to make a photograph of the full moon. I wasn't happy with any of my moon photos from that trip, but it's an amazing place, and I went back in October so that I could spend a bit more time there. During my first trip, I locked my keys in my car in the middle of nowhere. I ended up breaking my window to get back into my car. Fortunately, all of my windows survived my second trip.

Ensenada Cruise - Work sent me on a 3 day cruise down to Ensenada. I'm not a big cruise type of person, but it was a nice relaxing break.

2006

Cancun - I took a long weekend trip to Cancun where I got to play with little baby spider monkeys and crawl around in a cool cave. I didn't get any pictures of that because I forgot my camera that day (grrrrr), but I still managed to get a few colorful shots of ruins the next day.

The Getty Villa - They finally opened the newly remodeled Getty Villa this year. Reservations are backed up for months, but I got lucky and managed to land myself a slot. I like the Villa better than the new Getty museum. Not because of their respective collections which are kind of so/so for each, but because of their gardens and architecture which are fantastic for each.

Central Coast Road Trip - I had a few weeks off from work, so I drove up the coast to see Hearst Castle. The coast was sort of fogged in the whole time which was challenging since I don't know how to shoot fog. Hearst Castle was fortunately above the fog. I also took a side trip over to Yosemite National Park

2005

Greece and Italy - made up the bulk of a recent trip to Europe. I also spent a bit of time in Turkey and New York

Los Angeles Arboretum and Norton Simon - A lazy Saturday brought a trip up to Pasadena (why are all the best gardens (and museums) in Pasadena? I'd never been to the Arboretum before. It was definitely worth the traffic choked trip up the 110 though. I went a bit crazy with the macro shots, but all the flowers were so beautiful, how can you not?

Hawaii - I took a very short, weekend trip to Hawaii. It's a beautiful place, but (at least on Oahu) also very touristy. I don't know that I really captured the essence of the island, but it was my first trip to Hawaii, so that's something.

2004

Cabo, Mexico - I took an extended weekend trip down to Cabo Mexico. The scenery was amazing. The water is so blue, I was half convinced they had people going out early in the morning to dye it.

Malibu Creek State Park - I did a bit more hiking in 2004. That was especially true as the days started getting shorter and I wanted to maximize weekend sunshine while I could take advantage of it. Malibu Creek State Park was one of those weekend outings. There was actually almost too much sun for my camera. I was blowing out highlights like you wouldn't believe. I was able to salvage a few good ones though.

Long Beach Aquarium - One of the photo blogs I visit had a series of shots from an aquarium, and the colors and images were so incredible, I wanted to go and try to get some of my own. I wasn't very happy with these shots at the time, but looking back, I like them a lot more than I thought I did.

2003

Redondo Pier at Sunset - I was really pleased with some of these photos. I remember looking at them and thinking that I was living in a postcard

26 Things Project - The 26 things project is a photographic scavenger hunt. During the month of July 2003, participants were invited to photograph images representing the 26 words posted by sh1ft.org. It was difficult to balance the obvious against the obscure. I had a bunch of fun doing this.

Laguna Beach Art Festival and Christmas Festival - This was a really fun day. I love Laguna Beach more than almost any place I've ever been. With the hills all around, and the strong art vibe, you feel like you're in a protected little enclave.

Around the Neighborhood - Sometimes, there's beauty all around you. Here you'll find some of my first experiments with Macro shots, and strange angles.

Santa Monica - Just a few photos from Santa Monica 3rd Street.
