Retained by Paralyzed Chicago Policeman Andre Van Vegten

Chicago Tribune, 03/17/1997

A second look: The concrete planters erected on median strips to make Chicago look nice for last summer's Democratic convention are being questioned by prominent Chicago attorney Robert Clifford. He has been retained by Chicago policeman Andre Van Vegten, who's paralyzed from the waist down after his squad car plowed into a retainer at Cicero Avenue and 50th Street in January while answering a call. Though Clifford hasn't filed a suit, he has hired a traffic specialist to take a closer look. We hear there are frequent complaints about the planters being traffic hazards.
