Robert Clifford Named one of Illinois' Most Influential Attorneys

Press Release, 05/03/2000

Robert Clifford, powerhouse personal injury attorney, was recognized as one of the Top Ten Most Influential Illinois Lawyers by American Lawyer Media.

The prestigious list of the state’s heaviest hitting lawyers includes former governor James Thompson, U.S. Attorney Scott Lassar and Dean of the University of Chicago Law School Daniel Fishel.

In naming Clifford, 49, to the multi-faceted group, the electronic publication based in San Francisco with reporters, editors and correspondents in Illinois and New York, stated he has been most influential in his "quiet, but tireless way" that he has lobbied the state’s business and political communities on issues of importance to the bar.

Clifford was in the forefront in the fight against "tort reform," a 1995 law which was later found unconstitutional by the Illinois Supreme Court.

He also endowed DePaul University College of Law with the country’s first Chair in Tort Law and Social Policy which sponsors an annual symposium on issues of importance to the legal community and the public.

Clifford was elected last year Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation, the largest section of the ABA, numbering some 60,000 lawyers nationwide. He will accede to Chair next year.

Clifford also was recently named one of the Top Ten Litigators in Illinois by the National Law Journal as well as one of the nation’s Top Ten Litigators in 1993 by that publication.

He has consistently been voted one of the Best Lawyers in America by his peers for nearly a decade. He has been inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers as well as been selected to be a member of the National Judicial College.

He is Past President of the Illinois Trial Lawyers and the Chicago Inn of Court.
