Robert Clifford Available to Speak on Legal Ramifications of Principal's Dental Sedation Death
Press Release, 12/18/2007Robert Clifford is available to speak to the press today, December 18, 2007, regarding the legal ramifications of a Chicago principal who reportedly stopped breathing during a dental procedure yesterday and died.
Clifford was the attorney for the family of Diamond Brownridge who died last year when she was over-sedated by her dentist at Little Angel Dental Clinic on Chicago’s west side as the five year old had two cavities filled. Clifford, who recently settled the Brownridge case for the dentist’s policy limits, also was instrumental in pushing for stiffer legislation in Illinois regulating dentists who perform such procedures.
Effective Jan. 1, 2008, the new law, SB 214, requires dentists to obtain a specific permit from the state before performing deep sedation procedures.
The 46-year-old Chicago principal of Brentano Math and Science Academy, Georgette Watson of Skokie, was pronounced dead yesterday reportedly following surgery at a North side dental clinic where she had undergone a root canal surgery.
