Web Release, 01/06/2009

A four-hour program on “Lessons in Professional Responsibility Learned from the Illinois Law Practice of Abraham Lincoln” will be presented in Springfield at the Old State Capitol Building on Wed., Feb. 20, in commemoration of the 200th birthday of the 16th president of the United States.

Robert Clifford is a panelist on the program sponsored by the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA).

A panel of lawyers and judges from around the state will address the law practice of Illinois’ favorite sons of the 19th century and how these issues impact the practice of law today.  Presentations will be based upon historical research from The Papers of Abraham Lincoln.

Topics will include reverence for the law, conflicts of interest, solicitation, fees and retainer agreements, pro bono legal work, sale of a practice, managing client concerns and expectations, the lawyer as an advocate, zealous advocacy, mental health and diversity.

A reception will follow the program in the Old State Capitol.  Four hours of professional responsibility continuing legal education credit is available.

The program will begin at 12:30 p.m.  To learn more, please visit the ISBA website.
