Appellate Court Upholds Revoking Casino's License
Chicago Tribune, Metro Section , 06/01/2007ILLINOIS -- An appellate court has upheld the Illinois Gaming Board's decision to revoke a state riverboat gambling license held by Emerald Casino, a once clout-heavy company that fell into bankruptcy.
Charging that the effort to move the project to Rosemont was tainted by deceptive owners and mob influence, the board stripped Emerald of the unused license in December 2005.
The matter has been tied up in court ever since, with Emerald representatives vowing to keep the matter bottled up for as long as possible.
Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan said she was pleased with the ruling of the state's Fourth District appellate court in Springfield. "This has been a long fight to restore and ensure the integrity of the gaming industry for the people of Illinois," Madigan said.
Emerald's attorney, Robert Clifford, said his clients plan to appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court. "We maintain that the proceeding was a clear denial of due process," Clifford said.
