Clifford law Offices Files Two Lawsuits Today in Porch Collapse

Press Release, 07/27/2003

Clifford Law Offices filed two lawsuits against the city of Chicago, the owner of the building and the contractor in the porch collapse that killed 13 and injured dozens of others June 29 in Lincoln Park.

Katherine Sheriff, 24, was killed when she was attending a party at 713 Wrightwood. Clifford Law Offices also filed a lawsuit on behalf of 23-year-old woman from Winnetka who was injured in the tragic incident.

The law firm, which filed the first lawsuit against the city of Chicago, again filed a negligent spoliation of evidence claim against the city for demolishing the porch just hours after the incident. Clifford Law Offices also filed against the owner of the building, Philip J. Pappas, and his real estate company, L.G. Properties, Co., of Chicago, as well as George Koutroumb is, the contractor who built the porch.

An initial investigation has indicated that the porch was not built properly and that city inspectors did not properly inspect or license the construction of the porch.,
