Clifford Law Offices Files Lawsuit in Nieman Marcus Explosion

Clifford Law Offices is filing Thursday (Jan. 6) the first lawsuit on behalf of a Nieman Marcus employee who was severely burned in an explosion at the Northbrook department store last June.

Michael Loeffler, 36, of Elgin, an assistant building engineer at Nieman's was with Northbrook Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Luecht, who had responded to a power outage and smoking power transformers about 1:15 p.m. June 11. They were with an electrician from Wigdahl Electrical Company of Elk Grove Village, David Emmerling, who was working in the main electrical room of Nieman's when an explosion occurred causing his death and that of Luecht. Loeffler was severely burned in the explosion on his arms, legs and face

Kevin Durkin, partner at Clifford Law Offices, filed the negligence lawsuit against Wigdahl in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of Loeffler.

Loeffler was hospitalized at the University of Chicago Hospitals and has permanent scarring in the areas where he was burned. He still is undergoing extensive daily therapy.
