Clifford Law Offices Files Wrongful Death Case in Truck/Bus Collision at I-90 Toll Plaza

Press Release, 11/20/2003

On Thursday, November 20, 2003, Clifford Law Offices filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of Jane K. Hand who was killed Oct. 1 when a semi-trailer rammed the back of a bus which was returning from a day trip at Anderson Gardens in Rockford carrying members of the International Women Associates.

Hand, 81, of Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood, was a passenger on the bush which stopped at the Marengo toll plaza on Interstate 90 when a semi-tractor leased to
Frontline Transportation Company of Elk Grove Village collided into the back of the bus.
Eight women were killed and 15/16 others were injured in the tragic incident.

Also named as a defendant is Vincente A. Zepeda, 49, of Chicago who owned and operated the truck.

Hand died within minutes as a result of severe internal injuries she sustained in the collision.

“The National Transportation Safety Board as well as the state police are investigating this crash,” said Keith Hebeisen, partner at Clifford Law Offices who filed
the case.  “We will be conducting our own investigation and then put all of the information together to determine the circumstances that caused this avoidable tragedy.”

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Charles F. Kuoni III and Todd J. Kuoni, the adult sons of Hand.
