Clifford Law Offices Obtains $2.671 Million Settlement for Construction Worker
Press Release, 12/13/2004Clifford Law Offices obtained a $2.671 million settlement on behalf of the family of a 45-year-old plumber and father of three who fell six stories to his death at a Chicago construction site.
The settlement, approved earlier this month (Dec. 1) by Cook County Circuit Court Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman, was with four various contractors at the job site. Robert P. Walsh, partner at Clifford Law Offices, obtained the settlement on behalf of the family of James Marcello of Elmhurst.
The incident occurred on Nov. 27, 1999, at 121 W. Chestnut St. Planking that had been erected across a sixth floor elevator shaft collapsed as Marcello attempted to disassemble it. "Had the defendants taken greater precautions, as they should have, Mr. Marcello would be alive today," Walsh said. "His death was tragic and so unnecessary."
The case had been assigned to trial before Judge Coleman when it settled.
