Clifford Law Offices to File Lawsuit in Tragic Boating Accident
Press Release, 10/26/1999Clifford Law Offices is filing a lawsuit Tuesday (Oct. 26) on behalf of a Williams Bay, Wisconsin, man whose leg was severed in a Lake Geneva boating accident last week.
Jeffrey Kroll of Clifford Law Offices will file the civil lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court in Chicago Tuesday morning. He represents Gordon Roth, 57, who lost his leg below the knee when a boat operated by an Arlington Heights man rammed him.
James Alfini, 37, was arrested by the Geneva Lake Law Enforcement Agency 20 minutes after the incident on Sunday, Oct. 17.
The boat was owned by American Auto Brokers, a Barrington corporation. The negligence complaint names both the owner and the operator of the boat as defendants.
"Our initial investigation indicates that Mr. Alfini was operating the power boat at an excessive rate of speed and in close proximity to the shoreline," said Robert Clifford , principal partner of the firm. Kroll, an associate at the firm and the former Chair of the Admiralty and Maritime Law Section of the Illinois State Bar Association, also is handling the case.
Roth is a retired science teach who resides with his wife and five-year-old son in Williams Bay.
