Clifford to File Lawsuit on Behalf of Paralyzed Rolling Meadows Football Player
Press Release, 10/28/1999Powerhouse personal injury attorney Robert Clifford will file today (Oct. 28) a complaint on behalf of the Rolling Meadows high school running back who was rendered a quadriplegic at a football practice earlier this month.
Robert Komosa, a junior at the northwest suburban school, suffered the paralyzing injury during varsity practice at the school's field Oct. 6. He was transferred yesterday to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago after he remained hospitalized for weeks.
"This devastating injury was avoidable had high school officials taken some simple precautionary measures for a very foreseeable accident," Clifford said. Clifford will file the negligence lawsuit against the high school district.
The varsity football team plays the first game in the state playoffs Friday against Cary-Grove High School without number 26. The Mustangs clinched the division title as the distraught team members still tried to overcome emotion from Komosa's tragic injuries. The team coach said Komosa typified this year's hard-working team as they experience a "Cinderella season" with an 81 record, a complete turnaround from last year's 18 record.
Komosa fractured two vertebrae in his neck after he was tackled and struck a steel fence post which was less than five yards from the practice field.
Lawyers at the firm intend to go into Cook County Circuit Court in Chicago Friday for a protective order asking the court to preserve the area of playing field.
