Robert Clifford, An Experienced Plane Crash Lawyer, Selected As American Liaison Counsel in Lawsuits Involving Airplane Crash in Greece

Press Release, 08/29/2006

Robert A. Clifford has been appointed as the liaison counsel in the lawsuits involving the Cypriot jet that crashed in Greece last year killing 121 people.

Clifford, partner at Clifford Law Offices, will be the spokesperson for all of the American families who lost loved ones when the Boeing 737-300 crashed into a hill near Athens after the pilots apparently fell unconscious following a drop in the cabin’s pressure. The passengers included 48 students who were on a trip to Prague where the plane was due to fly after a stopover in Athens.

Boeing, based in Chicago, has been named as a defendant in a number of the lawsuits filed in the incident involving Helios Airways flight HCY 522 that left Larnaca Cyprus International Airport on Aug. 14, 2005. The complaints allege a number of design defects including a horn that sounds when a pressurization valve is incorrectly set. Apparently the same horn sounds with take-off problems which might have led to confusion by the pilots. Boeing has since revised its training manuals.

Clifford has been involved in nearly every major air crash disaster in the last 30 years in the United States. His involvement in the Cypriot crash is not only intended to help the families in the pursuit of answers in the crash, but to facilitate communications between plaintiffs and defendants in seeking justice in this disaster.
