The Trial of the Titanic
Press Release, 07/01/1998Robert Clifford represents the Chicago contingent of a team of trial lawyers for the American Bar Association's mock trial on the sinking of the Titanic at its annual meeting in Toronto Aug. 3.
Clifford along with Johnnie Cochran, Jr., and other nationally prominent trial attorneys will try the product liability issues stemming from the sinking of the ship and the tragic loss of 1,500 lives.
During the mock trial, complete with a cast of professional actors, Clifford will use 1998 trial expert technology. Computer graphics and the latest in technical engineering will mark the all-day "Presidential Showcase Trial of the Century" program.
An interesting twist to the trial will involve one of the plaintiffs filing a sex discrimination claim challening the "women and children first" policy. Clifford will represent a woman whose husband and sons were locked below decks until after the life boats were loaded.
After completing that mock trial, Clifford will move on to the "real thing" against Metra when the case of internationally-acclaimed violinist Rachel Barton goes to trial Sept. 14 in Cook Country Circuit Court in Chicago.
