CLIFFORD LAW OFFICES FILES FIRST PERSONAL INJURY CASE AGAINST CHICAGO IN PORCH COLLAPSE

07/07/2003

7/7/2003 - Press Release

Clifford Law Offices filed Monday, July 7, 2003, a personal injury lawsuit in the porch collapse that killed 13 young people June 29. The lawsuit is the first to be filed against the City of Chicago for spoiling the evidence by removing debris immediately following the tragedy. Also named in the suit are the owner of the building and his property company, the building manager and the contractor who built the porch.

The case was filed on behalf of 23-year-old David Dermejian who attended the party in the Lincoln Park three flat.

The porch was dismantled within hours after the incident and moved to various locations and now reportedly sits in a hanger at O’Hare Airport.

Robert Clifford has not ruled out amending his complaint to include the City for negligence.

"You can be assured that we are going to try and sort out why it is this building can be inspected five times without someone identifying that a permit has not been issued and more importantly how a brand-new porch could be there and it not be inspected," Clifford said.
