Clifford Law Offices Hosts Mock Trial at Chicago Public School
Press Release, 04/14/2010Thomas K.
Prindable, Managing Partner at Clifford Law Offices, spearheaded the law firm’s
efforts in coaching and mentoring students at a mock trial competition today
(April 14, 2010) at Harriet Beecher Stowe Fine and Performing Arts Academy in
Chicago.
Sixth, seventh and
eighth graders participated in preparing for various roles in the mock trial
including attorneys, jurors and witnesses. Law clerks at Clifford Law
Offices wrote the scripts for the trial and trained the students in the mock
personal injury and wrongful death lawsuit that is set in the agricultural
growing valleys of California. The case alleges that the agricultural owners
did not allow migrant workers to take “shade brakes” and water breaks which
resulted in the death and severe seizures from heat strokes of the overworked
employees.
Maureen Cullinan,
Michelle Alameda, Matt Luttig and Shannon McCabe, law school students in
Chicago and law clerks at Clifford Law Offices, worked with the students for
several weeks. The Hon. Edward A. Arce, a member of the Hispanic Lawyers
Association of Illinois and on the Board of Directors of the National Latino
Education Institute, volunteered his time to preside over the mock trial.
Harriet Beecher Stowe Academy, 3444 W. Wabansia Av., in the Humboldt Park area has a student population that is about 45 percent Hispanic.
