Clifford Law Offices’ Committed to Investing in Justice Campaign

Press Release, 03/10/2010

Clifford Law Offices continues to be a strong supporter of the Chicago Bar Foundation’s (CBF) Investing in Justice campaign.

Now in its third year, Robert A. Clifford is one of the founding and sustaining members committed to helping pro bono and legal aid organizations.

Founded in 2007, the charitable arm of the Chicago Bar Association started the campaign asking lawyers to help legal aid and pro bono attorneys who earn considerably less than those in the public sector of the legal profession.

This year, Charles Douglas, chairman of the Management Committee at Sidley, Austin LLP, is head of the Investing in Justice campaign.  Clifford Law Offices donated an entire month of public service announcements that air six to seven times each day in March devoted to getting out the message of the Investing in Justice campaign.  Douglas called the move “most generous” at the kick-off reception March 1 at his firm.

This year state funding for these agencies was cut in half, making the campaign even more crucial because legal services for people of limited means is on the rise.  And, according to figures of the CBS, private foundations in the Chicago are have reduced their giving or are fighting to keep their funding for legal aid at current levels, making this campaign even more important.

The Investing in Justice campaign relies upon Chicago area lawyers, law firms and corporations to donate personally in an effort to expand the capacity of the area’s pro bono and legal aid organizations and to underwrite innovative projects that make the justice system more user-friend and accessible for those in need.  The goal is 50 percent participation of all lawyers at firms with a goal to raise $1 million in 2010.  To find out more about it, please visit the CBF website at www.chicagobarfoundation.org
