Clifford Law Offices today (Tues., Sept. 26) filed a Petition for Discovery on behalf of the family of a five-year-old girl who was over-sedated in the dentist’s chair Saturday as she was having two cavities filled. The Petition is the first step in obtaining medical records on an expedited basis in order to assess whether a medical malpractice case has merit. No lawsuit can be filed without a written report from a qualified expert stating that the records have been reviewed and that they provide evidence that the lawsuit has merit.
Judge William D. Maddux, Presiding Judge of the Law Division in Cook County Circuit Court, granted a Protective Order this morning at the Daley Center that will preserve the anesthesia equipment used on the little girl as well as all medical records associated with her treatment and care during her dental visit Saturday.
Diamond Brownridge of Chicago, a kindergartner, is on life support at Children’s Memorial Hospital in a coma after she was rushed there from a dental clinic in her southwest side neighborhood Saturday.
Her mother, Ommetress Travis, is keeping vigil at the child’s beside at Children’s Memorial Hospital. She took her Saturday to the Little Angel Dental Clinic, 3915 W. 26th St., after her daughter complained of tooth pain. Diamond apparently was given a number of sedatives including sleeping gas, nitrous oxide. Her mother was asked to wait in the waiting room. After about an hour, Mrs. Travis went in to check on her daughter and found that the five year old had no pulse. Paramedics eventually were called and Diamond was rushed to the hospital.
Thomas K. Prindable, Managing Partner of Clifford Law Offices will be available to speak to the press at Clifford Law Offices, 120 N. LaSalle St., 31st Floor, Chicago.
