9 Hurt in Tour Bus Crash on Ohio Turnpike
The Associated Press, 06/14/2006WALBRIDGE, Ohio (AP) _ A tour bus crashed into a concrete barrier on the Ohio Turnpike Wednesday, injuring nine people, the State Highway Patrol said.
One person was taken to a Toledo hospital by helicopter and others were either transported to hospitals by ambulances or treated at the scene, just east of Toledo, according to authorities.
The accident tore apart one side of the bus and briefly closed the turnpike, but none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening, the patrol said.
Kate Makled, a spokeswoman for Ada, Mich.-based Alticor Inc., the parent company of direct-sales giant Amway Corp., said its subsidiary Merchandising Productions Inc. owns the bus.
She said its passengers normally would be Alticor employees or independent distributors, although she did not yet have a passenger list. Thirteen passengers and a driver were aboard.
''Right now our priority is making sure everyone is being evaluated for injuries,'' Makled said.
