Child Dies During Hay Wagon Ride in Kansas
09/07/2010A 12-year-old child was killed on Sunday in Kansas when she reportedly fell out of the bucket of a small tractor during a hay wagon ride and was then run over by the farm vehicle.
According to the Reno County Sheriff's office, the child, along with three others, were sitting in the tractor's bucket when they all fell out, reports KSN 3, an NBC affiliate. The three other children were injured and two of them were airlifted to a Wichita hospital.
"It is awful," a witness told the news source. "This is bad. It's a sad thing really."
Reno County Undersheriff Sheldon Stewart told the Associated Press that three other children were in the hayrack being pulled by the tractor and one more was sitting on the driver's lap, but that none of them were injured.
KAKE, an ABC affiliate, reports that the driver of the tractor was 24 years old. The news provider also reports that members of the Reno County District Attorney's Office were called to the scene of the accident, which is currently under investigation.
