09/08/2010

A mine worker was recently killed in Knox County, Indiana, when he reportedly drove a dump truck into a deep ravine.

According to Indiana State Police, the 25-year-old was operating an articulating dump truck at the Triad Mine near Freelandville, Indiana, when he reportedly drove into the ravine, reports the Evansville Courier & Press.

"The truck fell approximately 50 feet before it landed on its top," said Senior Trooper Brent Clark.

The news source reports that the cause of the crash is currently being investigated.

Rescue workers were able to get the man out of the truck and airlift him to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he died, reports WFIE, an NBC affiliate.

According to the Courier & Press, the Triad Mine was bought by the Richmond, Virginia- based James River Coal Company in May 2005. The mine runs three plants and one loading facility.
