One Dead, 15 Hurt in Long Island Bus Crash
The Associated Press, 02/02/2010NORTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a collision between a bus and another vehicle on eastern Long Island has killed one person and injured 15 others.
The crash Tuesday morning involved a Suffolk County Transit bus carrying 14 passengers. The passengers and the bus driver were taken to hospitals. The driver of the other vehicle was killed.
The crash happened around 7:40 a.m. in Northampton. Suffolk County spokesman Mark Smith says officials believe the driver of the other vehicle ran a stop sign and hit the side of the bus.
Police are investigating.
The rural area of Long Island is about 75 miles east of Manhattan.
