Three killed in Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks over Labor Day weekend

09/09/2010

Three people died over the Labor Day weekend in Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks.

One of the accidents claimed the life of a Lee's Summit woman in Toad Cove in Camden County, Missouri, reports LakeNewsOnline.com.

According to the Missouri Water Patrol, the 26-year-old was on the stern of a 29-foot Thunder boat as the operator was attempting to dock it in reverse. Somehow the engine switched from idle to full throttle and the craft reversed into a number of other boats, reports the news source. Captain Matt Walz of the Missouri Water Patrol said that the woman was killed from the injuries she sustained during the collision.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The two other fatal accidents on Lake of the Ozarks over the holiday weekend involved the drowning deaths of a 24-year-old man and an 18-year-old man in separate incidents, reports the news provider.

Going into the long weekend the Missouri Water Patrol said it had experienced a relatively calm boating season, according to the news source.
