Worker Falls to Death at Iowa Construction Site

09/03/2010

A worker died on Wednesday after falling at a construction site at the University of Iowa on Monday, Jens Nissen, an executive officer with Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Enforcement, told the Iowa City Press Citizen.

The man was working for Swanson Glass on a project to renovate the exterior of the university's Boyd Law Building, reports the news source.

Miron Construction was the general contractor for the project, which had subcontracted Swanson. Craig Uhlenbrauck, of Miron, told KCRG, an ABC affiliate, that Swanson employees were installing windows at the time of the fatal accident.

Kerry Koonce, a spokesperson for OSHA, told the Press Citizen that the agency is investigating the incident to see if there were any safety violations at the construction site, which he said were typical in incidents involving serious workplace injuries and deaths.
