New Illinois Law on Educating Students about Sexual Assault and Abuse

Question: Are there laws on the books mandating that schools educate students about sexual assault and abuse? Answer: Under a new state law, schools must now implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-kindergarten through 12. Previously, the law applied only to secondary schools. The law also requires teachers to participate in professional development and training classes that cover sexual assault and abuse.   For more information about Illinois law, visit www.illinoislawyerfinder.comIf you have a legal question, send it to Illinois Law Now is a series of newspaper and internet posts prepared by the Illinois State Bar Association that address legal issues of interest to the public.
