As the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) continues to investigate the cause of an explosion that left one Metra inspector killed and another worker severely injured, media reports are revealing that the incident occurred when a tank of gas on their nearby truck exploded.
The sound of the blast was so loud and horrific that nearby neighbors in the Old Irving Park neighborhood said their houses shook. A Metra spokesperson also told the press that Metra is looking into the incident.
About 17 Metra workers were conducting repair/maintenance work on the Milwaukee District North Line near the Grayland Station line Saturday morning (Nov. 3, 2018) when the explosion occurred sending two of the workers to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. One of the workers, age 37, tragically died at the hospital. The other worker remains there recuperating.
