Shannon M. McNulty, partner at Clifford Law Offices, spoke at the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) conference on artificial intelligence in Champaign, Illinois.
“Generative Artificial Intelligence—Fact or Fiction: Transforming the Legal Practice” was held April 2-4, 2025, at the I Hotel and Conference Center. It explored hot topics impacting civil practice and procedure and the issues AI is creating for lawyers and judges.
Shannon McNulty spoke on a panel entitled “Artificial Intelligence Evidence in Litigation and Beyond,” which discussed presenting AI as evidence at trial, DeepFakes in the Courtroom, and how AI is being used even when it hasn’t been disclosed. George Bellas of Bellas & Wachowski moderated the panel. McNulty was joined by the Hon. Jonathan E. Hawley (C.D. Ill.), the Hon. Iain D. Johnston (N.D. Ill.), and the University of Illinois Prof. Anita Nikolich presented a “deep-fake” demonstration.
Other topics discussed included digital and data security of AI and comments from the bench, which included Cook County Circuit Court Judge Joel Chupack, 22nd Judicial Circuit Court Judge Michael Chmiel, Illinois Appellate Court Fourth District Justice Eugene Doherty, and First Judicial Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Goffinet, who serves as a Co-Chair of the Illinois Supreme Court AI Task Force.
A panel, which includes Illinois State Sen. Steve McClure (R-54th Dist..) and Illinois State Rep. Travis Weaver (R-93rd Dist..), discussed the legislative perspective of generative AI.
