Air India Boeing 787 Crash Shortly After Takeoff en Route to London Kills More Than 240 On Board; Aviation Attorney Bob Clifford Comments

An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, reportedly carrying more than 240 people, crashed shortly after takeoff midday in India (Thursday, June 12, 2025) en route to London. All are said to have perished.

Robert A. Clifford, Founder and Senior Partner of Clifford Law Offices in Chicago and Lead Counsel in the crash of a Boeing 737 MAX8 in Ethiopia six years ago that killed all 157 on board, said, “Review of available video and eyewitness information indicate some form of power or flight control loss. The Indian government investigators should have flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder information within a couple of days that will provide vital information to try to get to the bottom of this deadly tragedy.”

Indian officials are also reporting that it is likely that there may be casualties on the ground in the area of the city where the aircraft went down. Local television reports in India show smoke billowing from the crash site in what appears to be a densely populated area near the airport in Ahmedabad, a city with a population of over five million.

Early reports from India indicate that the Air India flight AI 171 may have been carrying 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. It is reported to have crashed just after takeoff. The Boeing jet was headed to London’s Gatwick Airport.
