Boeing 737 Max Crash Documentary Released on Netflix

Downfall: The Case Against Boeing analyzes the investigation against the global airplane manufacturer following two significant crashes that resulted in the deaths of 346 people, the toxic culture of greed within the company, and the outrage and distress still felt by families of the victims.

In the creation of her documentary which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and that premiered on Netflix Jan. 21, 2022, filmmaker Rory Kennedy publicizes the serious crimes and negligence committed by Boeing that resulted in massive loss of life, as well as the expansive lawsuit that followed in the wake of the two crashes. A leader in aviation law, Clifford Law Offices is currently representing more than 70 families who lost loved ones in the Boeing 737 Max 8 crash in Ethiopia.

On October 28, 2018, Lion Air Flight 610 out of Jakarta crashed into the Java Sea killing all 189 aboard. Questions arose, but not many were quick to blame the airplane manufacturer, Boeing, and its brand new Boeing 737 Max jet. At that time, Boeing was renowned for its safety and was well-trusted by the public.

Less than six months later, on March 10, 2019, a second Boeing 737 Max 8 jet out of Ethiopia crashed near the town of Bishoftu, Ethiopia, killing all 157 aboard. This second crash brought to light a serious mechanical issue within the aircraft’s systems and created widespread panic about the airline’s safety, leading to the grounding of all Boeing 737 Max jets worldwide.

Robert A. Clifford, founder and senior partner of Clifford Law Offices in Chicago, is the Lead Counsel in the consolidated cases pending in federal district court in Chicago against Boeing in the crash of the 737 MAX in Ethiopia in 2019.

In a recent interview with Good Morning America, Kennedy explains the number of revelations that arose throughout the investigations following the two crashes, how new information affected the victims’ families, and how the culture of safety at Boeing evolved over the years from one focusing on safety to instead focusing on the price of the company’s stock.

The documentary, Downfall: The Case Against Boeing, is available on Netflix.
