Clifford Law Offices filed two civil lawsuits on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, against a Kane County chiropractor who has been criminally charged with the unauthorized taping of his patients in various stages of undress, including completely nude, during their medical visits without their knowledge or consent.
David F. Jasinski, partner at Clifford Law Offices, and Matthew D. Moyer, Senior Associate, filed the civil actions this morning against Dr. David Hanson, Hanson Family Chiropractic, and PMI Venture LLC, the owners of the building at 1928 Wilson St. in Batavia.
The civil cases filed individually today are on behalf of two female patients who wish to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the allegations, including invasion of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and breach of the doctor’s fiduciary duty to his patients. It is believed that Dr. Hanson taped as many as 180 patients over a period of years, with hundreds more having called a hotline with complaints, according to Kane County State’s Attorney’s office.
PMI Venture leased the offices to Hanson, but as owner, operator, and manager of the premises, retained control over structural components, common areas, building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and ventilation, and/or access to perform inspections, maintenance, and/or repairs. The complaints allege that Hanson had hidden cameras throughout the building, including in vents, fans, and other fixtures, in order to avoid detection. The complaints also allege negligent security and failure to implement and enforce reasonable safety measures against the owner of the premises.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Hanson, 43, of Batavia with multiple child pornography counts — five counts of producing child pornography (Class X felony), three counts of disseminating child pornography (Class X felony), and six counts of possessing child pornography, as well as three counts of unauthorized video recording of a minor. The criminal case charges involve victims, mostly female, ranging in age from children to adults, as they undressed or unclothed using hidden cameras “secretly placed throughout his chiropractic office.” Hanson had been licensed in Illinois as a chiropractor since 2013.
The next criminal court date is set for 9 a.m. January 8 before Judge David Kliment in Kane County. Hanson is currently detained in the Kane County Jail while his case is pending.
“The facts of these cases are disgusting,” Jasinski said following the filing of the lawsuit. “These women are broken when they heard what happened to them. They feel violated and taken advantage of in ways they never thought possible, given the trust they put in their chiropractor to make them better.”
“We intend to seek justice for our clients,” Moyer said. “This type of criminal conduct must be addressed in a civil forum as well to hold the doctor and all those responsible for these actions accountable.”
Meanwhile, it is reported that Illinois State Rep. Curtis Tarver (D-Chicago) said he plans to introduce legislation during the next session of the Illinois General Assembly in Springfield to provide accountability and oversight regarding businesses that use cameras in private or semi-private residences.
