Sarah F. King, partner at Clifford Law Offices and past President of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI), moderated a panel of judges on January 13 at the Daley Center on “Navigating the Law Division: Trial Essentials From the Bench CLE.”
Hon. Thomas V. Lyons II, Presiding Judge of the Cook County Circuit Court Law Division, addressed what to expect from the trial setting call and the pre-trial call.
Hon. Maura Slattery-Boyle spoke on jury selection. Hon. Patricia O’Brien Sheahan addressed the use of exhibits, common objections, and jury engagement, and Hon. James M. Varga spoke on jury instructions.
The 2-hour hybrid program, sponsored by the WBAI, was held online and in person. The program offered 1 hour of CLE credit, and provided practical, bench-driven insights on jury selection, trial presentation, evidentiary considerations, and courtroom strategy.
A mix-and-mingle with light refreshments followed the program.
