Clifford Law Files Lawsuit Against Suburban Pub Over Death of Mother Killed by Overserved Drunk Driver With a “To Go” Drink

Press conference to be held November 24, 2025, at 11:00 am CT. Zoom link below.

Clifford Law Offices filed a lawsuit on Monday, November 24, 2025, against a popular west suburban bar in the death of a mother killed by a man who was overserved there, then slammed into her disabled vehicle.

Joseph T. Murphy, Partner at Clifford Law Offices, has filed suit against Rafferty’s Irish Pub in Westchester after Tanya Navarro, 58, was killed on December 13, 2024, by a driver who was more than twice the legal limit when he left the bar. Tanya left behind two beloved daughters, Alyza and Aliyah.

Navarro was sitting in her car that was disabled in the 7200 block of La Grange Road in suburban Hodgkins when Finn Curran of Hodgkins struck her vehicle after having spent time at Rafferty’s. Curran admitted that the bar provided him with an alcoholic drink to go. Navarro’s beloved dog was also sadly killed in the crash.

Illinois State Sen. Willie Preston (D-16th Dist.) offered his condolences to Tanya’s family and expressed his support in their pursuit of justice: “My heart aches for the family after their tragic and avoidable loss. While nothing we do can bring Tanya back, I stand behind her family as they seek full accountability for the reckless conduct that caused her death.”

Illinois State Rep. Lisa Davis (D-32nd Dist.) pledged her support for the family as they seek to hold those responsible for Tanya’s death accountable: “Alyza and her sister Aliyah have forever lost their mother due to an auto crash that never should have happened. I grieve for them and with them — and will continue to support them as they seek justice in court for their loss.”

Clifford Law Offices will be holding a press conference at 11 AM today, Monday, November 24th, at its offices, 120 N. LaSalle St., 36th Floor, Chicago. Murphy will be joined by Preston and Davis, as well as Alyza and Aliyah, Tanya’s two surviving daughters. Alyza will give a statement. The press conference will be streamed live and will be available on the Clifford Law Offices website upon its conclusion. For details, please see the Zoom link below.

“The death of an innocent mother like Tanya is a tragedy that never should have happened,” Murphy said. “Rafferty’s servers knew Mr. Curran was in no condition to drive yet failed to take steps to prevent him from getting behind the wheel. Instead, they served him another drink despite his obvious impairment. Cases like this show why stronger dram shop laws are needed – to deter overservice and ensure establishments remain vigilant rather than continuing to serve individuals who are clearly impaired.”
